Phone compatibility

I have a dual-SIM Nokia 6.1 that I wanted to add to our account as a line for my son.  It should be able to handle any network but both IMEI numbers are not compatible, according to the Xfinity Mobile site and the technician I just spoke to on the phone.  I would like to understand why it isn't and how I can go about finding phones that will be?  What are the "requirements" to be compatible?  I'd like to be able to BYOD, something that is NOT Samsung, Apple, or Google.  Nothing against them, I just like other phones out there.  Does anyone know what I should look for?

Hey there, I am sorry to hear about your experience with BYOD. We certainly appreciate your interest in bringing your own device to your Xfinity Mobile account, and we certainly will share the feedback with our team. We currently only are able to take Samsung, Apple or Google Devices. We would recommend reaching out to our dedicated phone support team for further details on the requirements for bring your own device. You can reach out to our dedicated team via text or email (888) 936-4968.

According to https://www.xfinity.com/mobile/learn/byod , "Different carriers use different network technology, and as a result, not all phones are made for all networks. So when a phone is made for use on one carrier, it may not be compatible with the technology used on another."

What is so frustrating is that many, many phones (other than iPhones, Samsung A and S, Pixel 6, and Motorola budget) are perfectly compatible on Xfinity's network.  If they work on Verizon, they should work on Xfinity.  Xfinity limits their list of "compatible" for two reasons: one - Xfinity is trying to limit the type of phones to make customer assistance more efficient for them, and two - to sell Xfinity branded phones.  I have used both a Pixel 5a and Moto Edge 2021 with all features working great - but both are listed as incompatible phones when entering the IMEI.  If you are in the MVNO business, compatibility is the number one factor.  Limiting it makes your network, well, limited.
