Paid in full, want to upgrade

Both phones on my plan are paid in full.  I check the trade-in value and when proceeding with purchase, I'm being asked what plan I want.  I'm not changing the plan I already have, but there is no option for that.  How do I proceed simply replacing my phone and getting the trade-in value?
