Oldest Compatible iPhone

I’m signing up for a multi line shared data plan and when I went to activate some old iPhones only one worked, a 1st gen iPhone SE. I had some older iPhone 4/5 that don’t have sim trays on the side and there wasn’t an imei number in settings like there was with the 1st gen iPhone SE. The 4/5 only showed a meid number.

Anyhow, can anyone tell me the oldest iPhone that is still compatible with Xfinity mobiles shared data plan? I would greatly appreciate the help. I tried calling and online chatting with customer service but they couldn’t tell me the answer to this and directed me to a physical Xfinity store but I don’t have time to drive nearly an hour each way to ask a question that I’d imagine would only take a minute to answer.

The oldest iPhones that might be compatible would be the 6s and the SE, and both of these will be considered obsolete by the end of this year. Also, carriers are already only activating phones with LTE, as 3G is being dropped next year.

Thank you for your reply! When you say they will be obsolete by end of the year do you mean that current 1st gen iPhone SE’s that are already on an Xfinity mobile line and currently working, will stop working one day?
Or do you mean that you just won’t be able to add any additional 1st gen SE at that point?

Thanks again!

Here is a link that explains what obsolete and vintage mean for Apple products:

When iOS 15 comes out in September or so, it will most likely not be support the 6s or original SE, meaning that the software on these iPhones will not get updated. However, Apple continues to provide some security only updates for some recently vintaged or obsoleted iPhones.

Older iPhones will continue to work until the carriers phase out their old 3G and some 4G transmitters/towers.
