Need clarity on international roaming for premium unlimited plan - worried from bad reviews

Hi team, my wife just landed in India and will be there two weeks. Her line is on Premium unlimited and my understanding is that international travel pass is already included in the plan, and the customer service chat representative also confirmed that but I am worried by looking at reviews from folks who received unexpected large international roaming bills in spite of being on the unlimited premium plan, so can you please clarify (for calls, text and data) asap. Thanks.

@user_jwgu9v - Happy to help however we can! I definitely understand your concern and desire to know more. Since your wife is already in India, here is the direct breakdown of how her Premium Unlimited plan works and why the stories you've heard sometimes happen.

The Short Answer: India is Covered
Yes, the Global Travel Pass is included at no extra cost for lines on the Premium Unlimited plan. India is one of the 215+ covered destinations.

Service: Data

What's Included (Premium Unlimited): 10 GB of high-speed data per billing cycle. After 10 GB, speeds reduce to 14 Mbps (still very usable for browsing and maps).

Service: Texts

What's Included (Premium Unlimited): Unlimited (to and from the U.S. and within India).

Service: Calls

What's Included (Premium Unlimited): Unlimited (to and from the U.S. and within India).

Why the "Unexpected Bills" Happen
The negative reviews usually stem from two specific scenarios that you can check right now to ensure she's safe:

1. Legacy Plans: Many people are on older versions of "Unlimited" that were renamed over the years. If the plan isn't the latest "Premium Unlimited" (specifically launched/updated around March 2024), the system defaults to "Pay as You Go" rates ($0.30/MB), which adds up to $300 per GB.

- Action: Double-check your Xfinity app under the "Lines" tab. It must explicitly say Premium Unlimited.

2. International Roaming Not "Enabled": Even though the pass is included, the feature of international roaming must be toggled on in the account settings. If it wasn't enabled before she left, the phone might struggle to connect or, in rare technical glitches, trigger per-minute billing.

- Action: Log into the Xfinity Mobile account. Go to Lines > [Her Line] > International Services. Ensure "International Roaming" is switched ON.

Important Tips for Her in India
- Data Roaming Setting: She must have "Data Roaming" turned ON in her phone's cellular settings to use the 10 GB of data.

- Connection Issues: If her phone shows "No Service," she should try a Network Settings Reset.

iPhone/Android: Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. (Note: This will delete saved Wi-Fi passwords).

- Avoid Third-Party "Premium" Numbers: Calls to standard Indian mobile/landline numbers and U.S. numbers are free. However, calling "premium" service lines (like some business or help lines in India) may still incur extra charges.

Summary of Peace of Mind
Since your representative confirmed she is on the Premium Unlimited plan, her daily "pass" is effectively $0. She has a generous 10 GB bucket for the month. As long as she stays under that 10 GB (and honestly, even if she goes over, it just slows down rather than charging you), your bill should remain exactly the same as if she were at home.
