Galaxy MMS sending and receiving issue

We recently switched from AT&T to Xfinity Mobile and in the process purchased the two Samsung Galaxy A50's from Xfinity for my wife and myself. We activated both phones recently and initially everything functioned properly. On Sunday, 2/9, they both received a 426 Mb firmware update. Since that update neither phone can send nor receive MMS messages unless I disable WiFi. Both phones received another 126 Mb firmware update on 2/19 which unfortunately did not resolve the issue- it appears to have been the February security update. Both A50’s are currently on version A505USQS4ATA3. Our son’s unlocked Galaxy S8 had performed flawlessly on the AT&T network since we purchased it, however as soon as we inserted the Xfinity SIM card and activated the Xfinity Mobile service he encountered the identical MMS issues our A50’s are experiencing. I have tried two third-party messaging apps- both with the same result. I have tried it with Wi-Fi calling on and off- it makes no difference. I have checked the APN settings and they appear to be correct. I have reset the network settings, cleared the device cache, and finally performed a full factory reset- all to no avail. I have contacted both Samsung and Xfinity support, also to no avail- each blames the other. This is extremely inconvenient because both my wife and I have elderly parents we are managing and communicating via group text messages is critical to us. I am hoping that perhaps you can help me / us resolve this issue. Thank you for your time- I appreciate it very much!

We had the same issue with an S10. I went into the settings> connections> mobile networks> network mode> There, I changed from Global to LTE/CDMA. The MMS went through with wifi on.

Thanks!

Unfortunately the only options I have are "Automatic" and "Manual". All of the sub-menus are grayed out.

Our two Galaxy A50's received another 120 Mb update two days ago to version A505USQS5ATB3, however this also appears to have been primarily a security update and did not resolve the MMS issue.

I am rapidly running out of patience with this- neither Samsung nor Comcast / Xfinity seem to have an answer, nor do they seem particularly concerned. If the issue is not resolved with the next update, I will look seriously at taking our business elsewhere.

Thanks again for the suggestion- I appreciate it very much!

Please keep retesting and report your results, reporting phone handset make/model and OS version if possible.

There are improvements being made constantly on both the "back end" and via the updates to both iPhones and Androids.      Sometimes 'backwards compatibility' is impossible and  the handset and devices will have to be 'in sync' with regard to software updates.    So if either your cellphone's OS/app or backend OS/app  changes, the functionality could begin to fail again.

Today I noticed a huge improvement with iPhone MMS over wifi - it works for the first time ever.   Also I'm reading reports of successful Android MMS over wifi functionality recently too.

Btw another thing to consider is that the phone UI may actually say cellular data is off but software can do whatever it wants so it can still use cellular data "invisibly" and then not bill you for it, and flag the backend so you don't get billed for it on your xfinity-mobile data-usage page either.     That is how "Free/unlimited MMS" was implemented from day 1 over cellular networks decades ago.

Greetings!

Thank you for your note- I appreciate it very much! As I mentioned, we are experiencing the MMS issue with three Samsung Galaxy phones- two A50's purchased through Xfinity and an unlocked S8 which was purchased directly from Samsung and had previously been on the AT&T network where it functioned perfectly. All three devices are on Android version 9- the specific firmware version is in my original post. (All are up to date)

I am testing each device daily and to date there has been no change in the behavior.

An interesting aside- yesterday I removed the SIM card from my A50 and installed it in an unlocked Motorola Moto G6 I have as a "spare" and it functioned perfectly! I could send and receive MMS messages, make and receive calls, etc. I then moved the SIM card back to my A50 and MMS still does not function unless I disable WiFi.

So, it appears that it is either the Samsung firmware or something in the relationship between the Samsung devices and the Xfinity network- the APN setting are obviously correct.

Very frustrating indeed- hoping that it gets resolved soon!

For what it's worth, I called Xfinity today and they told me that Xfinity doesn't support MMS on a network, we have to use our data.  I have a S10 and S9, and neither MMS on my home network.

Yes, I have heard that from Xfinity support before as well however I don't believe it is true since it worked perfectly on my Moto G6 yesterday with the same SIM card / APN settings, same OS version, etc. It also seems to be an isssue only with Samsung devices.

The Xfinity rep suggested that I could purchase an LG instead- apparently they work properly also. My question is- why should I purchase anything- I just purchased the A50's from Xfinity and they are not functioning properly. This should be their problem- not mine!

Xfinity- your turn- what's up???

One additional note- this morning I took the AT&T SIM card from my daughter's unlocked Galaxy S8 and inserted it into my Galaxy A50 and I could send and receive MMS messages without issue. I put my Xfinity SIM card into her Samsung Galaxy S8 and it the MMS messages failed to send with WiFi enabled. As soon as I put her AT&T SIM card back into her phone it functioned perfectly again.

I also found that one of my co-workers has Xfinity Mobile service and has no difficulties with MMS with his LG G8- purchased from Xfinity. We exchanged screenshots of the APN settings and they are identical.

I will continue to test the MMS functionality and check for updates daily and post any additional information.

Xfinity sent me knew sim cards, but I'm not sure if it would make a difference.  Especially since my wife's unlocked phone has only been with Xfinity, it's the only sim card it's had. My phone was with Verizon for two days before switching.  Should I try the new sim cards?

Greetings!

I just wanted to add a final note to my string. This morning our two Galaxy A50's both received the long-awaited Android 10 update. The firmware version is now A505USQU5BTD1 with UI version 2.0. This update corrected the issue we were having with our MMS- we are now able to send and recieve MMS messages without toggling the WiFi.

Hopefully an update is forthcoming for the two Galaxy s8's our kids have as well- they are still experiencing the issue.

My thanks to Xfinity and Samsung for correcting this annoying issue- we appreciate it very much!
