During my recent study abroad trip to the Dominican Republic, I encountered unexpected charges totaling $1300 in roaming fees upon my return. Throughout my time there, I relied primarily on WhatsApp for communication, using data for essential tasks such as translations and completing assignments. Unfortunately, I was never informed about the rates for using the internet; instead, the focus was on charges for calls and texts.

As a college freshman, finances are tight, and the burden of this unforeseen expense is simply overwhelming. Neither my father nor I can afford to cover these charges, and if left unpaid, it will result in the disconnection of my phone plan.

This situation has left me feeling helpless and anxious about the potential consequences. Without a phone plan, I would be cut off from vital communication channels, jeopardizing my ability to stay connected with family, friends, and academic resources.

Furthermore, I want to highlight that I was in a small countryside town during my stay in the Dominican Republic, where access to Wi-Fi connections was extremely limited. As a result, I was forced to rely heavily on cellular data to complete my assignments and stay connected, further exacerbating the situation.

I implore you to reconsider the charges on my account and waive them given the extenuating circumstances. The financial strain placed on me and my family is substantial, and we simply cannot afford to bear this burden.
