I presume that you are not referring to Apple iMessage which has group messaging. I presume that you are talking about carrier group SMS/Text which actually uses MMS for group texts and texts with pictures, video, etc.
1.) XM requires and counts your cellular data for MMS, so enable cellular data. 2.) Go to Settings, Messages, Enable Send as SMS, Enable MMS messaging, and Enable Group Messaging.
Group SMS/Text messaging only works properly if everyone in the group has enabled it appropriately. So, if you add iPhone iMessaging contacts who have not bothered to enable SMS, MMS ,and Group Messaging, you will not get good results for obvious reasons.
