Xfinity Voice phone number porting FAQs (Answered)

***Updated 8/31/2026***

Find answers to frequent questions about porting your phone number when you switch to Xfinity Voice.

What is local number portability (LNP)?

Local number portability is a government requirement for all voice providers. It allows customers to keep an eligible phone number when changing providers. Keeping your phone number when you switch providers is called "porting."

Can I keep my current phone number when I subscribe to Xfinity Voice?

Yes, most phone numbers can be ported. Some factors can affect eligibility.

You will know when you place an order if your phone number can be ported.

How do I port my current phone number to Xfinity Voice?

To port your phone number, you must place a Xfinity Voice order. This can be done at xfinity.com/learn/home-phone-services

During the order you can choose to port your phone number to Xfinity Voice or pick a new one.

Should I cancel my existing service before porting my phone number to Xfinity Voice?

No. Your phone number must stay active with your current provider during the porting process.

Once your number ports to Xfinity Voice, your old provider should automatically disconnect the line (unless otherwise stated in your contract with them).

After porting is complete, you can contact your old provider to confirm service changes or re-bundle other services.

What's needed to port to Xfinity Voice?

To port your phone number, you must:

  • Have a phone number that is active with your old provider.
  • Set up service in the same geographical area (rate center) as your old residence.
  • Give oral or written consent to Xfinity to port, as required by government regulations. This is done after placing your order.
  • Not have a Primary Interexchange Carrier (PIC) or carrier freeze on the phone number through your old provider.
  • Your old provider may ask Xfinity to give more information to complete the port. This includes account numbers and PINs from your old account. An Xfinity agent will contact you to get the information if needed.

What is a Primary Interexchange Carrier or carrier freeze?

Some providers let customers "freeze" their accounts to stop their phone number from being ported to a different provider. With a freeze in place, valid port requests cannot be processed.

Only the consumer can contact their old provider to remove a freeze.

  • Separate long-distance and local freezes may exist.
  • Removing one will not necessarily remove the other.

How long does porting take?

A port request for only one phone number can be completed within one business day. Port requests for more than one phone number will take up to four business days.

Will Xfinity charge me for porting my phone number?

We don't charge a fee for porting to or from Xfinity Voice. You may incur an Early Termination Fee if you port your phone number before the end of a minimum contract term.

How do I port my Xfinity Voice phone number to another provider?

Contact the new provider for help with their porting process. Do not disconnect your Xfinity Voice service until the port is complete.

Can I port a mobile number and use it as an Xfinity Voice landline number?

Yes.

The mobile number must be active and in the same geographical area.
