Hide or disable your in-home WiFi network (Answered)

If you want to hide your in-home, private WiFi network from broadcasting its network name (SSID) or if you want to turn it off completely, you can do so within the Admin Tool. You can also hide your in-home network from broadcasting using the Xfinity app.

Hide your in-home WiFi network in the Xfinity app

Follow these steps to hide your WiFi network from broadcasting its network name (SSID) in the Xfinity app:

  1. Sign in to the Xfinity app using your Xfinity ID and password.
  2. Select WiFi from the navigation at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Select WiFi Details.
  4. Select Edit WiFi settings from the pop-up card.
  5. Use the Broadcast WiFi name toggle button to stop broadcasting your network name.

Mobile screenshot of Edit WiFi settings page with the WiFi name, WiFi password and Security Mode.
  6. Once finished, select Save.

Note:
You cannot disable your WiFi network in the Xfinity app.

Hide or disable your in-home WiFi network in the Admin Tool

  1. Begin by connecting to your WiFi network and accessing 10.0.0.1 from a web browser.
  2. Enter the following:
    • Username: admin
    • Password: Check the sticker on the bottom of your Xfinity Gateway for the password.
      • Note: If you're missing the gateway sticker with your password, contact Xfinity for help.
  3. Navigate to Gateway > Connection > Wi-Fi, where you will see your private WiFi network name(s) displayed.
  4. If you would like to:
    • Hide your WiFi network from broadcasting (this will prevent your WiFi name from being visible in a list of networks), select EDIT, uncheck the Enabled box in the Broadcast Network Name (SSID) field at the bottom of the page.
    • Disable the radio that transmits your WiFi network's signal (this will disable your WiFi), select Disable in the Wireless Network field.
      • To complete either change, click Save Settings at the bottom of the page.
  5. To complete either change, click SAVE SETTINGS at the bottom of the page.
