FAQs
Can I use my phone’s original VPN settings to turn Advanced Security on the go on or off?
No. Advanced Security on the go needs to be turned on or off through the Xfinity app on your device.
I turned on Advanced Security on the go. How do I know it’s working?
You can check if Advanced Security on the go is working by looking for the VPN icon on your mobile device when you're connected to a network outside your home.
- iOS devices: You'll see “VPN” on the screen.
- Android devices: A key icon will show. This means the feature is turned on.
As your device connects to different networks away from home, Advanced Security on the go helps protect you from risky websites. If you connect to an unsecured WiFi network, it creates a secure, encrypted connection to help keep your data and device safe.
If you don’t see the VPN icon, your device might not be connected to the internet. In that case, Xfinity will turn the feature off and turn it back on when you reconnect.
Can I turn on Advanced Security on the go on all my devices?
Yes, you use it on any compatible mobile device. It works with iOS devices running iOS 14 or later, and Android devices running Android 10 or later. Just make sure the Xfinity app is downloaded and you're signed in as the primary account holder or a manager.
Note: You’ll need to turn it on for each device individually using the Xfinity app.
Why is a certain website blocked by Advanced Security when I’m not connected to my home network?
Advanced Security on the go helps protect your device from risky websites, no matter how you're connected. This includes cellular data or public WiFi.
If a website is blocked, you can choose to allow it for one hour. Just open the Xfinity app and go to Security > Advanced Security. From the security risk dashboard, find the blocked website and tap Allow Access.
If you think a website is being blocked by mistake, you can ask Xfinity to review it at spa.xfinity.com. Xfinity most often usually responds within three business days.
Can I use Advanced Security on the go along with another VPN on my device?
No. You can use Advanced Security on the go or another VPN client. If you decide to use Advanced Security on the go, remove other VPNs from your device.
