ANSWERED: What is Advanced Security on the Go?

Using Advanced Security on the Go

Advanced Security on the go:

  • Is available to xFi Complete customers through the Xfinity app.
  • Provides safe browsing and data protection to your mobile device whenever you’re connected to an unsecured WiFi network away from home.

See below for step-by-step instructions on how to enable this feature and check the settings on your device.

Eligibility

Advanced Security on the go is available to all xFi Complete customers. It can be enabled for:

  • Android devices running Android 10 and up.
  • iOS devices running iOS 14 and above (iPhone only).
    • Note: iPads are not supported at this time.

We recommend ensuring your device has the latest available operating system when using this feature. Check with your device manufacturer for directions on determining your device's current operating system and if there’s an update available.

Enable Advanced Security on the go

Before you can turn on Advanced Security on the go for your device, you’ll need to enable Advanced Security on your home WiFi network.

ON ANDROID DEVICES

  1. Open the Xfinity app.
  2. Tap Security.
  3. Tap AdvancedSecurity tile.
  4. On the screen for “Advanced Security on the go,” tap I Agree.
  5. On the Location permissions pop-up, tap While using the app.
Mobile screenshot of the Location permissions pop-up with the option at the top, While using the app, selected. Below that, there are also options for Only this time and Deny.

  6. The Xfinity app always requires location permissions. From the next screen, tap Allow in settings.
    • Notes: For Advanced Security on the go to work on Android mobile devices, the Xfinity app requires location permissions set to Allow all the time.
      • This allows it to run in the background and detect network changes.
      • If location permissions aren’t granted to the Xfinity app, Advanced Security on the go won’t work as designed.
      • Your location won’t be collected, used or shared by Comcast.
