You can activate using the Xfinity app.

Before you start: Download the Xfinity app for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

If you already installed the Xfinity app, ensure that you have the most current available version.

    1. Launch the Xfinity app and sign in using your Xfinity ID and password.
      • You must be the Primary, a Member, or a Manager to access.
    2. Select Get Started to begin the process of setting up your gateway.
      • Activation should only take about 20 minutes.
      • If you're replacing an existing gateway, you may not be prompted to begin the activation process as soon as you sign in to the app. To begin activation, navigate to the activation entry point by selecting the Account tab from the bottom right corner of the Xfinity app and then selecting Activate xFi Gateway or Modem under the Devices section.
    3. The Xfinity app then takes you through the necessary steps to set up your gateway and to start receiving Xfinity Internet and/or Xfinity Voice service.
      • To get started, find an active cable outlet in your home.
      • An active cable outlet is commonly found in a living room or office and has, most likely, provided service before.
      • Notes:
        • If you live in WiFi Ready Apartments and lease the pre-installed Xfinity Gateway, you won't need to physically install the gateway.
        • You can check that the gateway is plugged in and has power by making sure the coaxial cable is connected to the Cable In/RF In input in the back of the device and the lights are lit on the front.
        • The pre-installed Xfinity Gateway will already be installed in a media panel and connected to a cable outlet.
    4. To maximize your WiFi coverage, avoid cramped spaces and make sure your gateway is placed at least a few feet off the floor.
    5. Once you've found the best spot for your gateway, follow the instructions to connect the coaxial cable to your gateway and active cable outlet.
      • Make sure this connection is finger tight.
      • If you have a single light on your gateway, your device will be ready to activate when it turns white and is either solid or blinking.
      • If you have multiple lights on your gateway, your device will be ready to activate when the top three lights are solid.
      • Select Ready to Go! to continue.
    6. Now that your gateway is powered up, select Check Connection to check if your cable outlet is active.
    7. If an active outlet is detected, you can proceed with personalizing your home WiFi network name and password.
      • Enter a WiFi name and password that is easy to remember and secure.
        • This is what you'll use to connect your personal devices to your network. Select Next.
      • If the cable outlet isn't active, you can select Try Another Outlet and repeat Steps 5 and 6 with a different outlet in your home.
        • If there are no other outlets to try, select I Don’t Have Another Outlet so we can help schedule a technician visit.
        • Notes:
          • If any other error occurs during activation, you'll be connected with an agent through text messaging for help.
          • If an agent is unavailable to chat by text, we'll call you.
    8. Confirm the WiFi name and password you entered.
      • If you need to make changes, simply select the back arrow in the top left corner of the screen.
      • If you're also activating Xfinity Voice, you'll see your phone number on this screen.
    9. Select Confirm and Finish Up.
      • Notes:
        • If you’re upgrading an existing Xfinity Gateway with a new one or moving your service to a new address, you should be able to keep your previous settings — including the WiFi name and password.
        • Remember, if you change the WiFi information, you need to reconnect all your devices using the new WiFi name and password.
        • Your home network setup will now begin and can take up to 10 minutes to complete.
        • You can enable push notifications so you can be alerted when your activation is complete.
    10. Once your gateway is activated, you need to connect to your new WiFi network — choose to either automatically or manually connect the mobile device you’re using.
      • Auto Connect
        • Depending on your device’s operating system, you may get a message prompting you to join the new network.
        • If your device is unable to auto connect, you can still manually connect.
    11. Connecting Manually
      • Copy your WiFi password to your clipboard by selecting Copy and then Go to Settings.
      • From there, go to your WiFi settings on your phone.
      • Wait for your new WiFi name to show in the list of available networks and join the network by pasting your password.
      • Remember, you need to connect all your other WiFi-enabled devices, too.

You can now use the Xfinity app to:

    • Access your home network settings.
    • See who's most active on your network.
    • Pause devices.
    • Troubleshoot connection issues.
    • Block inappropriate content and network threats.
