ANSWERED: How to activate and troubleshoot your Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender

***Updated 5/5/2026***

See steps to help activate or remove your Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender using the Xfinity app.

If you have more questions, see the FAQs.

Before you begin

  1. Download the Xfinity app on the Apple Store or Google Play.
  2. Make sure your Xfinity Gateway is not in Bridge Mode.
    • If your 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, or 6 GHz WiFi bands have different network names, this activation will combine them into one. You’ll use the same name and password for both. This helps create a stronger and more reliable connection.
  3. If your home WiFi doesn’t have a password, change the security mode from open to protected.
  4. Remove any 1st Generation Xfinity WiFi Extenders from your network. These devices don’t work with the Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender.
    • To remove your 1st Generation Xfinity WiFi Extenders:
      • From the Xfinity app, go to the WiFi tab. Then, click View WiFi equipment.
      • Choose the WiFi Extender you want to remove.
      • Click Device details. Then, choose Remove WiFi Extender.
      • Repeat as needed.
    • 2nd Generation Xfinity WiFi Extenders can remain connected.

Activate your Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender

The Xfinity app guides you through setup and activation. It helps you place your device, connect it, and complete activation. If you haven’t already, download the Xfinity app to get started.

  1. Sign in to the Xfinity app using your Primary or Manager’s Xfinity ID and password.
  2. Choose the Services tab.
  3. Scroll down to select Activate More Devices.
  4. Tap Pro WiFi Extender.
  5. Tap Get Started.
  6. Follow the steps to activate.

Remove your Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender

If you’re no longer using your Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender, you can remove it from your account using the Xfinity app. This will delete it from your network and erase its history.

Once removed, you can set it up again on the same account or use it with another eligible Xfinity Internet account.

When should you remove it?

Remove your Pro WiFi Extender before:

  • Replacing your Xfinity Gateway.
  • Moving or transferring service.
  • Gifting your device to someone else.

How to remove it

  1. Sign in to the Xfinity app.
  2. Go to the WiFi tab.
  3. Tap WiFi Equipment.
  4. Tap the Pro WiFi Extender you want to remove.
  5. Tap Device details.
  6. Scroll and tap Remove Pro WiFi Extender.
  7. When asked, tap Remove.
    • The Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender may still broadcast a signal for about 15 minutes before it’s fully removed from your network. If you want to stop the broadcast right away, follow steps 8 and 9.
  8. If you have a Battery Backup, unplug the cord from the round red port on the back of the Extender.
  9. Unplug the power adapter from the Battery Backup or directly from the WiFi Pro Extender, then unplug it from the power outlet.

Activation troubleshooting

If you're having issues activating your Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender, restart the gateway:

  1. Go to the Overview tab in the Xfinity app.
  2. Scroll to the Gateway Restart card.
  3. Tap Restart Gateway.
  4. When the gateway is fully restarted, repeat the above steps to activate your Xfinity Pro WiFi Extender.

If the second try is unsuccessful, contact Xfinity for help.
