ANSWERED: Comcast's Terabyte Internet Data Usage Plan

Question

How does the Xfinity Internet Data Usage Plan work?

Answer

The 1.2 Terabyte Internet Data Usage Plan provides you with 1.2 Terabytes (TB) of Internet data usage each month as part of your monthly Xfinity Internet service. If you choose to use more than 1.2 TB in a month, we will automatically add blocks of 50 GB to your account for an additional fee of $10 each. Your charges, however, will not exceed $100 each month for non-Internet Essentials and non-Internet Essentials Partnership Program customers, no matter how much you use (Note: Internet Essentials and Internet Essentials Partnership Program customers had a maximum overage charge of $30 per each month for November and December 2020 usage). We're also offering you a courtesy month, so you will not be billed the first time you exceed the limit.

It is important to know that only a very small percentage of our customers use more than 1.2 TB of data and are not likely to be impacted by this plan, so they can continue to stream, surf and download without worry. To see your actual usage, sign in to My Account.

Note: The 1.2 Terabyte Internet Data Usage Plan does not apply to Internet Essentials or Internet Essentials Partnership Program customers in 2022.

Additional Options

For those who regularly use more than 1.2 TB in a month, we also offer an Unlimited Data Option.

For customers who lease an xFi Gateway, the Unlimited Data Option is available via the xFi Complete package. For customers who own their own modem, there is a $30 monthly fee (excluding Internet Essentials and Internet Essentials Partnership Program (IEPP) customers). The fee is independent of actual data usage. To learn more about xFi Complete, see xFi Complete FAQs.

Available Tools

We offer tools to help you track and manage your usage so there are never any surprises about how much data you use:

  • Data Usage Meter in My Account - Monitor how much data you have used with our Data Usage Meter.
  • Xfinity My Account App - You can also monitor how much data you have used in our mobile app. (Download the Xfinity My Account app.)
  • Notifications - You'll get email, text message and Xfinity X1 on-screen notifications when you’ve reached 75% (email only) and 100% of your data usage. Customers in select areas will also receive notifications at the 90% threshold. If you use more than 1.2 TB you will also receive an email, SMS text message, and X1 on-screen notification for each 50 GB you use over 1.2 TB up to the maximum overage charge of $100 for non-Internet Essentials and non-Internet Essentials Partnership Program customers. (Note:Internet Essentials and Internet Essentials Partnership Program customers had a maximum overage charge of $30 for November and December 2020 usage.)
If you’ve opted in, you’ll also get push notifications on your phone through the Xfinity My Account app.
    • Push notifications will be sent when you’ve used 100% of your data, followed by when you’ve reached a $50 overage charge and again at the $100 maximum overage charge.
    • Note: Internet Essentials and Internet Essentials Partnership Program customers had a maximum overage charge of $30 for November and December 2020 usage. If a customer receives a notification indicating more than the $30 overage charge they can disregard as we are working to update and suppress those notifications.
