Pair and install Xfinity Home motion sensors — Xfinity Smart Home and Shield Select (Answered)

***Updated 8/26/2026***

Learn how to manage your door, window, and motion sensors directly from the Xfinity app.

To start, you’ll need to pair and install the sensor using the Xfinity app. For more information, see how to:

What you'll need

  • Xfinity Smart Home or Shield Select from Xfinity Home
  • The Xfinity app
  • Sensors that have been paired and installed

Manage your sensors

  1. From the Home tab in the Xfinity app, view the door, window, and motion sensors you have paired.
    • The status of each sensor indicates if a door or window is open or closed or if motion is detected.
    • If there are any problems associated with a sensor, you'll see an alert.
  2. Tap the sensor to see details for that sensor.
    • On the individual device’s screen, you will see more details about the sensor and have the ability to configure preferences and notifications.
  3. Selecting the gear icon in the top right-hand corner will bring you to the device’s settings page.
    • Here, you can see activity for that device and configure additional settings, like managing preferences or configuring notifications.

Manage your preferences

Preferences can help you manage your system, saving you time and effort. They can allow you to automate some of your devices.

For example, if you have both a door and window sensor in addition to a compatible door lock, you can configure a preference to automatically lock the door when the sensor is closed.

Manage your notifications

You can also configure notifications for each sensor, customizing the type of notification and what type of activity will trigger them.
