Xfinity home phone issue

92 year old mother in law home phone service call waiting is no longer working. When you call her and she is on the line you don't even get a busy signal you get message that voicemail is not enabled. She does not want the Xfinity voicemail because she doesn't know how to retrieve the messages. Has an answering machine.  Home phone is displaying that there are voicemails via phone company. Have called customer service several times and they insist call waiting is on. Had service person at her house today he verified that call waiting is not working. Told me to call customer service to disable voicemail and enable call waiting. Did this. Service rep said call waiting was enabled. I asked if they could deleted voicemails so that message would go away on her phone. She said she did. Nothing changed except now, when she makes an outgoing call her caller id shows as private number so we don't even know it's her calling. Help!
