service call scam

I called customer service to report my xfinity landline phone was out of order. They scheduled a service call but a couple of hours later I got a call on my cell from someone claiming to be a service tech that wanted to help me get the issue fixed over the phone. I went along for a little while but I became suspicious and hung up.

How did the scammer know my phone was out of order? Is there a Comcast employee working in conjunction with the scammer? Are Comcast customer service calls being hacked? It seems Comcast has serious security breaches but they want to sell us home security devices and plans. I don’t think so.
