No dial tone

My phone is plugged into my gateway modem in the phone jack socket (next to phone icon). There is no dial tone

user_ap21tb Most of our devices come with 2 ports for phone service that are listed as Tel 1 and Tel 2. To confirm is the phone plugged into Tel 1 that is for the first home phone line?
