line in use

Since a week I got the message "line in use" on the phone. Rebooting, or take the power off the phone doesn't work. How do I get it working again

The “line in use” means the modem thinks the phone is being used or off the hook. Basically, there’s a short in your home phone wiring that causes it. If you don’t want a tech out to troubleshoot, plug a phone directly into the modem, bypassing your home wiring

Had same "line in use" problem. Phone did work when i plugged directly into modem. Problem was where a "medical alert" box was plugged into phone line. After resetting the "alert" box, all good.
