Landline stopped working.

The phone rang and I answered then the line went dead. Everything else works. Quite odd. It's been almost 12  hours now. I thought there was an outage so I waited and, of course, I can't CALL support.

Good afternoon @abbypatch! Having the phone ring normally, answering it, and then losing service afterward would certainly be concerning, especially after waiting 12 hours to see if it would recover on its own.

When you pick up the phone now, do you hear a dial tone, a fast busy signal, or complete silence?

If you call your home phone from a cell phone, what happens? Does it ring, go directly to voicemail, or receive another message?

Do you have multiple handsets connected, and if so, are they all experiencing the same issue?

Is the phone connected directly to your Xfinity Gateway, or through a wall jack that feeds the home's phone wiring?

It was complete silence. My son called it and said it went straight to voice mail and I had 2 handsets with the same issue. The phone was connected directly into the modem.  I was without phone for 3 days. I couldn't understand why I had TV and internet but no phone.

I no longer have the problem. In the middle of the night, I tried my last hope. I unplugged the modem and let it off for a minute or two then plugged it back in. It worked. I have phone again but I keep checking to make sure it's still working.

Thank you for answering my query. I really need to know if it was because we were without power for 4 hours that day and was thinking the cable lines were down and no one knew.  I was very upset. It is my life line.

@abbypatch You're welcome. This could have definitely been caused by the service interruption you experienced from not having power for those 4 hours.

The modem reconfigured itself when you completed that power cycle by removing the power cord for a minute before plugging it back in.

We can definitely check your landline connection if this happens again. Just in case you weren't aware, you can use the Xfinity app to see if there's a service interruption reported in the area.

Thank you but I wouldn't be able to use the app if it happens again. Without power, I have nothing.

That's what I get a kick out of...when a company says to go online to report outages when you don't have power and can't report outages. I'm computer only. Desktop and laptop.

@abbypatch I understand. The only other option would be for you to call in when that happens or wait until you have power so you can then reach out to us and we can help troubleshoot.

LOL. No power. No phone, internet, laptop, desktop, TV...totally in the "dark" until power is back but then why call after the fact? Younger generations and/or companies don't realize not everyone has all the new technology because it's not needed.
