Got a "free" phone and now im getting services and device charges.

Around May 2021 I wanted to change my internet subscription and they offered a promotion for a free phone but I did not want it, however, the sales rep say if I took the free phone even if I didn't use it I can get them a discount on the internet bill. so I asked if that's even if I don't activate the phone or use it.

after that, I did not pay too much attention to it and since I have my autopay setup and done, but recently I notice my credit card statement for a charge of "Xfinity mobile" that I was not familiar with so I look into it further and normally I checked Xfinity site for my bills which do not say anything about this charge, that's when I notice that the mobile site is entirely different and there it was my bills.  

I never opened the phone box for this phone.

Does not seem fair that this is happening, and after searching the forums it seems I'm not the only one affected by this practice.
