Can I use a IP phone

I'm switching to Xfinity Voice from my local telecom and I kind of hate my existing telephone hardware. Can I connect an actual IP phone to my Xfinity network and take calls that way, or do I have to wait until the telecom ends my service and plug the land line into the Xfinity Gateway, then hook my phones into the wall jacks again?

It’s all landline the conventional way, not Ethernet

If you’re porting a number, it’s the landline

Oh, no, there's no number porting involved. I'm just switching off the old number and starting up with the new one from Comcast. Do I have to use my house's phone circuitry and a conventional landline phone, or can I buy a VoIP phone and connect it to the networking equipment via Ethernet cable and make calls that way using the new Comcast number?
