my caller ID shows two different area codes
I received two calls recently where the caller ID screen shows "area 317" above the actual number, then below this it shows the actual 10 digit number with a different area code.. The "area 317" I have found out is an Indiana area code, my area code is Massachsuetts 978, which is shown with the number.
Any ideas as to what this could be?

I can definitely understand how that would be confusing. Have you already attempted any troubleshooting steps by logging into the Xfinity My Account app, select your telephone service and then troubleshooting to see if that resolves the issue of seeing two area codes?

"area 317" is not the area code of the caller, it is the name of the business registered with caller-id - that name has nothing to do with the actual area code of the originating number. A business operating in area code 978 (or any other area code for that matter) can certainly have a caller-id name of "area 317" so it would show up on your caller-id as such. That said, I have found that calls from the entity called "area 317" are nothing but robo-calls. Hope this helps some future googler...
