Xfinity Apple Gift Card Promotion Scam
On 9/16/26, an "Xfinity agent" called to inform that 50% discount on our acct was expiring . He gave the account holder name, the last payment amount and the last 4 digits of the credit card on the account.
“Agent Travis” offered a 3-yr $60/month promotion that required 1-year prepayment that was unusual, but I was willing to accept. When told to get Apple gift cards for the prepayment, I balked and asked to cancel the promotion. He then connected "Craig Johnson" at Comcast HQ who said there was a $399 cancellation fee. When told I would call the FCC, “Craig” said the cancellation fee could not be removed, threatened to cancel my Comcast account and would blacklist us with all cable providers. I hung up.
Later that day, I logged into Xfinity acct to check balance and discovered a new $399 charge with no explanation.
Payment issue: Called Xfinity Security Assurance. Bank payment was pending. Advise calling bank to dispute. Done.
Security issue: How did these scammers get our account information?
Does Comcast have a data leak or rogue staff? What will Xfinity Security Assurance do?
Is the $399 charge punishment for cancelling the fraudulent Apple Gift Card Promotion?
If the acct was compromised or hacked Comcast/Xfinity has a BIG SECURITY PROBLEM!
Warning to all: Report suspicious Gift Card promotions. Get hard details, such as cancellation fees, on all promotions!
