Frustrating Forum UI Elements
A few weeks ago the undocumented "Chat" (?) icon was moved from the bottom-right to the top-right of each Forum topic window (all windows in all Forums!!) and a "mystery bar" was added. These changes interfere with the triple-dot menu items for:
- Edit
- Delete
- Mark unread
- Add to bookmarks
- Flag as inappropriate
- Subscribe to RSS Feed
They also render the Compose area scroll bar and scroll arrows useless.
(Tested in Chrome, Edge, and Firefox in Windows 11)
Could these regrettable changes be undone please?
ETA: I checked with one of my other Forum IDs and it doesn't appear to have these anomalies. They may be leftovers from a few weeks ago when I made the mistake of using that [Edited: Language] "Chat icon". The anomalies may be limited to my "BruceW" profile. Lucky me. PLEASE FIX!!!

@BruceW
Interesting. I don't have either of those - in FF - but then I'm not a customer.

I just checked with one of my other Forum IDs (should have done that before) and it doesn't have these anomalies either. They may be leftovers from a few weeks ago when I made the mistake of using that [Edited: Language] "Chat icon". In any event, it appears to be limited to my "BruceW" profile. Lucky me.

Heads up. Your posts are Private because you masked profanity.

@BruceW, just curious, have you tried this in an incognito or private browsing session? Also, I'm sending this image over to the backend team to see what's going on.

I just tried it in a private browsing window. There, my main "BruceW" ID has the ever present "chat icon" and the "mystery bar". Logged in with one of my other IDs has neither one. And these are on (as shown on the address bar) forums.xfinity.com pages, not other xfinity.com pages.
@Again: Thanks for the heads up. I knew the Forum privatized profanity, but had no idea that it privatized fake profanity. That was just a few random symbols from the top of row of my keyboard, no actual profanity. Wow!

More weirdness.
When I log in with my main "BruceW" ID the "chat icon" and the "mystery bar" are present on every blessed page, even the "home" page at "forums.xfinity.com"
When I log in with one of my other Forum IDs, the "chat icon" and the "mystery bar" don't appear -- at first. But if I pull up a "Customer Service" or a "Billing" page and wait about 3 minutes, there they are! Other pages (ex: "Your Home Network") don't seem to have them.
Any chance the hook in my profile that causes the "chat icon" to appear could be removed? I intend never, ever to use it again after my disastrous one-and-only encounter with it, and I suspect that turning it off may remove the "mystery bar" as well. I wouldn't mind if these two elements were removed permanently.
Note that in the image I posted in my OP, the page is scrolled down to the bottom only to make the outline of the "mystery bar" more visible against the dark background there. When the page is scrolled elsewhere the "mystery bar" is hard to see, but along with the "chat icon" still interferes with the functions outlined above.

Thanks for trying the private browsing session @BruceW. Right now, I'm trying to have your profile looked into. Do you still see the chat icon when you log out of your profile by chance?

No. The "chat icon" and the "mystery bar" only appear after I sign in to the Forums.
ETA: The "chat icon" and the "mystery bar" do not seem to be present in the wee hours of the morning (1-2am ET).
Is the Chat service shut down then?

Trivia note: If I use a browser's "Inspect" function to remove this line:
the "mystery bar" disappears, and the "chat icon" returns to the bottom-right corner of the window below the "Top" button, which is the location it always had before this recent unpleasantness started.
The "chat icon" still appears on every blessed Forum page, but at least it is out of the way! This isn't a "fix" since it only lasts until I reload the page or load a different page, but perhaps knowing this will help track down the cause, if, you know, anyone cares.
