Why is FLEX drastically boosting my data usage when not being used ?
I have been working from home since March 2020 and have been watching several streaming services via apps on my Smart TV that uses internet connection over that time. In the last 6 months or so I was basically exclusively watching the streams and my monthly data usage was only between 400-600GB/month. In February of 2022 I decided to drop the cable TV package as I was no longer using it, but kept the internet service. Only 12 days into February I brought home the Flex device as the xfinity agent at the office I turned my cable boxes in said that i could use it for free, great deal right ? Turns out not so much. I hooked it up to my TV and went about my normal routine, then on the afternoon of March 2nd i logged into my xfinity account to pay my bill and just happened to check my data usage. The xfinity chart showed that had used over 1TB of data in February which is more than DOUBLE the data usage of the previous several months. January was less than 400GB and December just around 400GB. Then on the afternoon of March 2nd after only 36 hours into March it showed my usage was already at 10% of the monthly allotment (120GB).
Now I know my usage habits had not changed during this period and I only watched about 6 episodes of a 30 minute show plus few hours of news channels on the Flex device. So I immediately removed the power cord from the flex device. Last night I streamed about 3 episodes of an hour long show and today was a normal day at work and it is only showing about 20GB of additional usage today. I will leave the device powered off and continue to check my usage, to be honest, at this point I doubt I will even plug it in again.
