When did Comcast decide to charge for Flex service?

It was a nice benefit when it was free to XFinity customers. Now that they're going to charge monthly for the service, I think I'd rather have Roku or something. Planning to return the box and cancel.

Any thoughts?

Are you by any chance, referring to the Peacock service? The Premium tier is currently free for Comcast subscribers, but I understand an announcement was previously made that at some point, there would be a monthly charge for Peacock Premium for Comcast subscribers. Peacock itself also offers a separate free tier, but I don't know if it's available yet for Comcast subscribers.

As for Flex itself, for Internet-only customers, Flex is included with the Internet service, the first box is free, additional boxes are $5.00/month.

Thank you so much for reaching out and bringing this to our attention!
Our Flex services are indeed free of charge, as well as the first streaming box. However, each additional box is billed at $5 per month.
Additionally, while the service itself is free, subscriptions may be required to certain apps being utilized within the Flex service.
So for example if someone were to want to watch Netflix, or Hulu, would need to be a subscriber to those apps, and then login via Flex! Or, if say, you were wanting to upgrade Peacock to the premium service, then of course it would consist of a fee.
