Has anyone received a call from Xfinity technical support [Edited]

I was on the phone all day yesterday and the day before, trying to get our FLEX box to work .  I even drove to the local store and switched out the FLEX box for a new one.... ( the first one was also new)

This morning I received 2 phone calls from someone identifying themselves as Xfinity Technical Support, calling from [Edited: "Personal Information"].  I logged into my Xfinity acct and the number in the call log Said XFINITY Technical support as well.    The caller asked for my name and address, which I gave them, bcs I set up an appt for a technician the day before - so I thought they were confirming the address.  His next set of questions were for model and serial numbers to my equipment.  At this point I was suspicious and I told him to look under the notes in my acct , bcs all that information should be in the notes from the previous 2 days and there was no reason for me to waste me time repeating all this information.  I asked him his name and he got angry and hung up.  Has anyone else had this happen to them. ?

... It’s a legit call from Comcast ... it only takes a minute to look up the number.

Two problems with that:

  • Look it up where? It doesn't seem to be listed on any Comcast/Xfinity pages, and many, perhaps most hits in an Internet search claim it's a scammer.
  • Scammers can fake their caller IDs. So even if it's a legit Comcast number, a call from that number could still be a scammer.

What to do, what to do  . . .

Update on my reply to this possibly being a phishing call:

After the Xfinity tech came for our service call, he told me that number is legit. He said right after you get the appt, their purpose is to check the area for any outages. If they see outages resolved they will try to get you to cancel your appt. to save Xfinity from tech time expense. They want to be sure you really need the tech to come out. That is why they call you very shortly after your appt. is booked. It really feels like a scam the timing, Xfinity needs to give them a better script that explains their call.

@user_5zwj7a We appreciate your time in providing an update as well as your feedback. I'm glad our expert technician was able to set your mind at ease and confirm it was indeed a valid call from Xfinity. Just to confirm was the technician able to resolve your concerns while they were there and all your services are working will now?

Would love an explanation to this.  This afternoon i got 2 emails from Xfinity. Emails said ESSENTIAL UPDATE:  There is a matter which requires your immediate attention.  Please attend to it promptly to avoid any disruption to your service. The emails came at 11:23 and 11:34am.  I ignored both as suspicious

Then around 3PM my internet went down.  I went in the Xfinity app with the message “MoCA transmits low - click to proceed with a truck roll”

Not wanting to do anything online i called the Xfinity support line (1-800-943-6489). Anybody who has called the support line knows it takes a LONG time to speak to a human.  The message warned of long wait times and asked if i want the virtual agent while waiting.  I said yes and Xfinity sent me a text to link with virtual agent. The virtual agent said it still looks like there are some issues with your Xfinity Service we will text you soon to schedule a tech visit

A min later got a text saying 2/21 (tomorrow) is the earliest a tech can come, and to reply back 1, 2, 3 or 4 with the 2hr time block that work. I texted a number back. Its was 4:47P. At 5:17P i got a text back that my tech appt is confirmed.

At 5:51P my phone beeped with a voicemail. Wierd given phone was in my pocket and didnt ring.  The call was from “Unknown” and the transcription was “We are calling on behalf of the Xfinity advanced support tech team in reference to your technician appointment and to provide you a faster resolution. Please call 1-855-226-6408.  Again that number is 1-855-226-6408 thank you”

Still suspicious Googled “Xfinity Advanced Tech Support calls” and found this forum.

While there are plenty of questions on this thread about how whoever is falsely calling to represent Xfinity minutes after a tech visit is scheduled, what i want to know is how i got 2 suspicious emails from Xfinity telling me i need to click here to avoid a service interruption, about 3hr BEFORE my internet service went down.

This number is a scam call. I worked for Comcast and aware of this number. Also reported it.
