Will Email Export Overwrite

apologies upfront - not a simple scenario.

background : using the same coax for internet for 25 years and email address for 17 years.  I have emails going back to 2008 when Comcast bought previous operator/ISP.  My mailbox hovers around 90% of the 10GB limit. I regularly have to go in and remove old files/attachments to avoid missing/dropping new messages. Unlike Gmail,Outlook,Apple,Proton, etc ....Comcast will not accept monthly subscription money for increased storage.

In 2022, I did some sort of copy from Xfinity email to Apple/icloud email.  For the most part.....it seemed to work.  Over the past 3 years when I get a notification from Xfinity warning me about mailbox size, I look for folders that are not used much, I check contents are all available on Apple/icloud, then I delete the folder(s) on Xfinity to free up space there.

Now I am preparing to finally move. I have Gmail and Yahoo accounts but looks like I will stay with Apple/icloud.  So, I have 3 questions.

1 - if I use the Xfinity Export Portal and follow the instructions for "export data from Comcast.net to Apple Email" .....will this 2nd export clobber anything I copied before ?

     as example "Sent" folder.  If Sent folder already exists at the destination, can the copy just use that folder ?    ...not delete and create new Sent folder.  Think this goes to how IMAP and the ShuttleCloud tool works.

2 - When that is complete, I will set Auto-Forward to the new address (gulp).  I will probably check the "keep copy of forwarded messages" for few days in case I need to backout if things are not working.

      I will still have my Xfinity service to the home.   So, my account and email should all remain intact - is that correct ?

3 - Let's say I decide to move in the future and at that point I don't have Xfinity service in the new location.

      My understanding is that my email account, email address and email forwarding info will remain as long as I login every so often.  Is that correct ?   Must login must be once a month, once a year, ... ?

lawn Thanks for reaching out. I'll number the answers to keep is simple for you.
1. It should just put them in the folder that is already named the same. It shouldn't delete one that is already there.
2. It will remain intact for the time remaining before the transition to Yahoo.
3. You have to access the email every 90 days minimum to keep it active without an active home service account.

Please keep in mind we are transitioning all our customer emails to Yahoo in the near future, and have already begun. You may want to look for anything from us recently about this as the email transition will require you to approve Yahoo term and conditions before we can transition the email. Should you not accept them, the email account would be deleted after we complete the transition of all emails to Yahoo.

Thank you XfinityEricB !

I was not aware of the transition of all email from Comcast.net to Yahoo.

I want to transition to a 3rd party provider (e.g., outlook,gmail,icloud).

My plan was to export/copy my Comcast emails using directions on  exporthelp.xfinity  and then set forwarding in Xfinity Email AutoForward to the 3rd party provider.

I think the transition to Yahoo changes that a little.

Regardless whether I am forwarded or not on Xfinity, it sounds like my user/recipient comcast.net address will get deleted if I do not accept the Yahoo T&Cs.  Is that correct ?

That would create significant operational problems for me since all sorts of things are tied to that email address after 17 years of usage.

Will my comcast.net address remain intact if I accept the Yahoo T&Cs and then, after transition is complete, set forwarding on Yahoo to the 3rd party provider ?

If thats all correct, will there still be a need to login to keep the "account" active or will it be considered permanent ?

@lawn

I can't answer your previous questions except for the last one, in part.

Will my comcast.net address remain intact if I accept the Yahoo T&Cs and then, after transition is complete, set forwarding on Yahoo to the 3rd party provider ?  Yes, you can forward your comcast.net email on Yahoo to a 3rd party app.

If that's all correct, will there still be a need to login to keep the "account" active or will it be considered permanent?  I'm going to say you would still need to log in to web mail from time to time just to make sure the account stays alive.

@XfinityEricB    If I agree to the T&Cs and my Xfinity email is migrated to Yahoo, my  comcast.net  email should still work and should continue to work as long as I have service from Xfinity.  However, if I move my home address to a location that is not a Comcast service area, I presume my Xfinity.com account would be disabled/removed.  Not sure if I could login to anything then.  Under these conditions, would my   comcast.net  email continue to function as it would be hosted by Yahoo ?

Good morning lawn! Thank you for being so thorough and checking in with us on all your needs for the email migration. To help cover all questions our migration overview may be able to help out.

In order to keep your comcast.net email address active you will have to complete the migration to yahoo. In that process you will need to accept the yahoo terms. If you do not accept the terms with yahoo eventually the comcast.net email address will be deleted.
As @Again shared you can forward and use a 3rd party email app for your comcast.net email address. Searching through yahoo's help site it shows that if you do not use your mailbox for over 12 months the email address will be deleted.

I know with having my own email for 15 years that it would be difficult to change all of my accounts over if I had to make a new email address. I have found the yahoo add easy to use so far and I haven't had a need to forward to setup a email client since the app has been so convienent. If you close your Xfinity account, your comcast.net email address will remain active with yahoo as long as you complete the migration. Once the migration is completed you will no longer be able to accesss connect.xfinity.com to access email, you would have to use yahoo. However you will still have access to your Xfinity account at Xfinity.com with the same credentials. This allows you to still view and manage your Xfinity account online and in the Xfinity app.
@Again Thanks for helping out!
