Why is my Xfinity email going to my Microsoft account?

Hi,

For some reason email communication from Xfinity is going to my Microsoft email instead of my Comcast.net email. Think this just started last week. I do remember years ago providing my Microsoft email address for alternative email purposes, & some emails were received at both email addresses. Last week an email titled: "Your privacy matters" came only to my Microsoft address & not my Comcast.net address.

Under "Your Information" in my Settings my "Personal Email" does have my Microsoft email listed. Right below that is listed "Comcast Email", & it does have my Comcast.net email listed there & it is set to "Preferred". Shouldn't all communication from Comcast/Xfinity be going to the Preferred email address, or my Comcast.net address?

I have tried to change the "Personal email" to my Comcast.net address but it tells me that "Email is already linked to an active account" & won't let me change it.

In summary, I do not want to receive email communication from Comcast at my Microsoft account, only wish receive email communication from Xfinity/Comcast at my Comcast.net address. Can anyone help me? Can I completely remove my Microsoft email address from my Comcast account all together?

Thank you.

@daemondog

Check to see if email forwarding is set in Settings.

Click on the gear icon

Click on Email Settings

In the left pane check Auto Forwarding

Otherwise, check to see if you have any filters set up to forward Comcast mail to your Microsoft account.

Hello @daemondog Thanks for reaching out to our community for help with the email notification settings. It's been so long since I've verified a third party email address with my account I had to look at my own settings to see what I have set up.

For myself, I have my comcast.net email address and a third party, with Comcast.net being the preferred. A third party email address is needed for account verification. You can change the email address here, but you have to use a non comcast.net email address to make the change. Do you happen to have another email address aside from the Microsoft address that you would want to use?

Also, under Account and Identity you should have Account Communications. Can you check your settings there to see what communication settings are enabled please? When I check those settings I have my phone number and my preferred comcast.net email address listed. Nothing else is enabled.

@Again Thank you for your help on this as well. I didn't think about the forwarding setting since it seems to be a lone email that was sent.

The only other thing is maybe its spam. Spammers have become rather clever with the way they send emails, please be cautious when receiving email, messages, or texts that seem off and unexpected.

@Again Hi & thank you.

I do not have Auto Forwarding enabled. I did, however, have a couple Filter Rules setup, for Spam & Phishing. I vaguely remember setting those up, maybe a decade ago :O(

They have been deleted. Thanks for pointing me in the that direction.

@XfinityPaula Hi & thank you too.

Makes sense that it won't let me change my secondary email address, I do wish to leave my Outlook email in there. I am used to receiving the same email at both the Outlook & Comcast.net, figured Xfinity was just covering their bases, making sure I got it. This email does appear to be legit, from ( [Edited: "Personal Information"]nity.com). When my Comcast.net address did not receive this email, I began messing with the settings. Make sure I hadn't set Outlook as the primary.

You are correct, under Account Communications / Contact Methods I have listed only my mobile phone number and comcast.net (preferred) email address.

Also clicked on the "Manage Linked Accounts" tab just in case, there are none.

Almost eleven months ago I logged in & removed two Secondary IDs. The Settings under My Account have changed, feels like there is less detail. I do remember for instance, a User's tab & Devices tab. Is there still a User's tab?  Where I can check for secondary ID's.

I was a dialup customer with MSN before we had Comcast Internet. Maybe the World Wide Web just knows that's the best way to get ahold of me :o)

Thank you both for your assistance.

@daemondog     There sure is! You can find the instructions for managing your additional users here:

https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/designate-users-restricted-or-unrestricted    You should be able to see the list of any secondary ID's and their user roles here.

I am the only user listed; my removals must have been successful.

Have not received any Xfinity emails at my Outlook address lately, perhaps issue resolved.

Thanks
