Why do emails I deleted from 7 years ago keep returning

Over the years, I have deleted thousands of emails, but they keep returning.  I have over 13k emails in my account.  How do I permanently delete emails I don't want to keep?

judy53 Hello and thank you for reaching out via our Xfinity Community Forums. I understand how frustrating it can be when emails seem to reappear after you've deleted them.

It sounds like your Xfinity email account may be set to use IMAP, which synchronizes your emails across all your devices. With IMAP, deleting an email only removes it from the device you're currently using. The email remains on the server until you explicitly delete it from the "Trash" or "Deleted Items" folder.

Here are a couple of ways to address this:

  • "Delete from Server" Option: Check your email settings and look for an option like "Delete from Server" or "Remove from Server" when deleting emails. If you select this option, the email will be permanently deleted from the server.
  • Manually Empty Trash: You can also access your Xfinity webmail and manually empty the "Trash" or "Deleted Items" folder regularly. This will ensure that any deleted emails are removed from the server and won't reappear on your other devices.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions or need further assistance.
