Weird emails saying I need to update my email as comcast is starting a new version

I have been getting weird emails for weeks from various sources saying comcast is changing to an new email systems I have to update my email.  I called comcast and asked and person I spoke to said no.  but I keep getting them and they seem a bit persistent. 

I want to make sure comcast is not changing to a new version of email?

They are phishing emails.  When Comcast updates their webmail there isn't anything you need to actively do.  You can either ignore those emails and delete them or mark them as spam.  Legitimate emails from Comcast/Xfinity will have the verified Xfinity logo when you open them in webmail.

I get these as well. I contacted the chat room, which is miserable to deal with. After going round and round, I finally got an agent instead of an automated answering system. When I explained my question and gave the email from where I was receiving the COM-CAST email, the agent told me to click and link and update. OMG! When I asked to speak to the supervisor, Kirby the agent disconnected. I believe it is a phishing scheme using the Xfinity logo that looks very real. I'm now waiting for a call back from a real person. I should get one in another hour or so.

It's still a phishing email.  If there is a "click here" to update link, hover your mouse over it and you should see the link at the bottom of your screen.  There is NOT anything you need to do to update webmail; it's automatic from Comcast/Xfinity and they would never send you a link to update your email.

When I receive such messages, I usually look at the detailed header information to see where they are coming from, and I look at the URLs associated with any links in the messages.

 

When I am convinced that they are phishing emails, I forward them (including all headers) to Abuse@comcast.net, Subject: Phishing Email.

 

I believe that this is the Comcast-recommended practice.

 

I never click on links that are associated with email messages saying that I need to update software or account settings.  That would be just asking for trouble.

The giveaway for me that it was a fake comcast/xfinity email was the return email started out as Stoner647.
