Website Timeout

I have noticed over the last month that my access to certain websites (as example www.msu.edu) and certain other sites within this domain do not work.  When I click on website I get a time out error on browser.  I have used several browsers and get same response.

When I go to website via my cellular phone cellular connection it works fine, then when switch to my home WiFi i get the error.  Further, when i connect through VPN on my work laptop through home WiFi it again works fine, but when disconnect VPN and go through work laptop on home WiFi i get same error.

Given these facts I am assuming this is an issue on Xfinity end and I have called/texted them several times with no solution.  The only response i got was that my modem must be blocking the sites.  Because i have my own modem, they directed me to the modem provider who I called and explained situation and modem provider noted it was internet provider issue.  Thus I am getting caught in middle of the two each blaming the other.  Given i can connect through VPN, I do not believe this is something in my modem or router but again rather an issue on Xfinity side.

Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated as it is really annoying to have to switch to cellular hotspot or VPN to access these sites when desired.   I have tried many items I was able to see on net  as IP renew, reviewing DNS settings, etc. without any luck.  Thanks in advance.

They've been asked to do that here in the Forums many times. AFAIK, they've never done it. You can do it if you have your own equipment or if you put theirs in bridge mode, as stated previously. Or, if you are using one of their gateway devices, you can swap it for another to change your public IP. You can do that at Service Centers and Xfinity Stores (check locations and hours at https://www.xfinity.com/support/service-center-locations/).

Your trace, like mine, does not reach the target MSU site, but it does extend beyond Comcast's network and two hops into the network MSU is using, indicating that Comcast is not blocking you, MSU is. Your only options are to either change your IP, or get MSU to lift the block.

It's more likely that MSU is blocking that your public Comcast IP.

Your public IP changes when you use  another ISP or a VPN. If you are using your own modem or a Comcast device in bridge mode, you can use your router's Clone MAC function to change your MAC, and therefore your public IP.

You can look up your IP at https://www.google.com/search?q=IP. You'll probably need to ask MSU's admins for help with this.

What does a trace to msu.edu show? In Windows, open a Command Prompt window, enter
    tracert -4 msu.edu
and post the output. Mine looks like:

C>tracert -4 msu.edu

Thank you for the repsonse.  I posted the trace below.   I was wondering same thing about MSU blocking it for some reason as well.  I was curious if rather than trying to deal with their admin, can't Xfinity/Comcast just reset/change my IP which would seem to be easier than trying to deal with administration effort with the end site?
