Trying to delete empty email account that I don't want to migrate to Yahoo. How?

Hi! 

I have an Xfinity email account that is no longer necessary. It's empty. It became unusable following one of the Xfinity data breaches. I'll never use it again. I do have 4 other Xfinity email accounts and 9 Yahoo accounts. I want to close and delete at least this one Xfinity email account - probably another (bec it was breached, too) - before the migration to Yahoo, for which I received an invitation a few weeks ago. 

How do I close and delete the account(s) now,  before the migration? I can't find a way in the email interface itself and so far have gotten nowhere trying to delete a viewer account either, in case that's the way. When I try to access the "Viewer" page it loads and disappears, over and over again.

Trying to find help via AI isn't working.

Please help. Going around in circles, myiPad's overheating. :/

Hello user_e31eb9_Robin_ thanks so much for taking time out of your day and reaching out with these Xfinity email questions! 

 

Beginning January 2025, inactive Xfinity Email (comcast.net email) accounts will be closed after a 90-day window of notifications.

 

Customers with an inactive email account may download inactive email data and close the email account via export.xfinity.com.

 

  • Customers may do nothing and allow the inactive email account to be closed and data to be deleted.

It isn't necessary. Account email addresses are migrated one at a time, so if you don't want this one to be one of your Comcast.net-at-Yahoo addresses, just don't migrate it. In time, as described above, Comcast/Xfinity will delete it for you.

You can move your email messages to a different provider, but you won't be able to use your Comcast.net address with any except Yahoo. Users can't migrate a Comcast.net email address anywhere else because making it work requires all sorts of behind-the-scenes shenanigans that only email system operators can do.

Hi! Well...wow. Thank you very, very much for the additional information! I'm full of new questions now, and concerns (mostly about the timing of things).

My biggest problem is how to deal with the Yahoo "10 email account limit." I understand that's a Yahoo issue & I should find out from them how they'll handle migrating my 5 -- 4, if I let one lapse -- Xfinity email accounts (email addresses) into their care when I already have 9 Yahoo accounts. I'm trying to avoid that problem by closing (not migrating?)  at least 1, maybe 2, of my Xfinity accounts (email addresses) AND closing 4, maybe 3, Yahoo accounts  immediately. 

But initial searches have told me that Yahoo won't immediately delete accounts, that there's a waiting period. 30 days is most often cited. Given that I received my first migration invitation email on 4/16/26 (and none since) I think I may not have time. 

Is there any new information re the 10-account Yahoo limit?  Has anyone bumped into it? What happens? Do the Xfinity accounts (email addresses) that push the number over 10 just vanish? That's scary. 

One thing: I do want to keep at least 3 of my Xfinity email accounts (email addresses). Worst case, I could lose another. But one of the ones I wouldn't mind losing is - like the spammy one I described in my original post - pretty much useless EXCEPT for being my primary account email. So, to eliminate that one I'll need to change the primary Xfinity account email address to one of the ones that I do want to migrate. I tried to do that yesterday but ran into a site page  that talked about needing a photo id, etc., and security approval. That email's been the primary account one since the early 1990's. What kind of complications will I run into while trying to switch it to another Xfinity email account email address (currently a "viewer"). Do I seriously need a photo id? Can't I, as the primary account, reassign a "viewer" address to be the primary one, before migration? I tried to do that yesterday but the website page wasn't cooperating. The page went into a reloading loop. Could've been my browser, I guess (DuckDuckGo). 

OK...this is waaaay too long. I'll stop now.
