The attempt to send data to the server "smtp.comcast.net"

My outgoing e-mail has stopped working. I've tried all the trouble shooting I can find online, and no luck. It randomly works for a few minutes, then back off again. It says my password is wrong, but I've double checked it and it's the same one I've been using. It's also the same password for the inbound messages and it's working fine.

Thanks for meeting us here in our community, @barryhoyt. I can understand how frustrating that must be, especially when your incoming email is working, but outgoing messages are failing intermittently.

Since the issue comes and goes, and you're receiving a password error only when sending, it may not be the password itself. Sometimes this can be related to the email client's outgoing server settings, authentication settings, or a temporary issue with the SMTP connection.

To help narrow this down, could you let me know what email program you're using (Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird, etc.) and whether you're seeing any specific error message when the send fails? That will help determine the next troubleshooting steps.

Thanks for the quick follow up. I use Apple Mail. The message says that an SSL error has occurred and a secure connection to the server cannot be made. The mention of my password was when I went into settings and tried a few things there and tried to save the changes (I've set everything back to the way is was).

barryhoyt Just to clarify, are you able to login to your email just fine without that password error message coming up?

that is correct. The only place it popped up was when I tried to save some changes in the settings

barryhoyt We can troubleshoot this further on our end today as it will require us to obtain your account details.

Forums- Click "Sign in" if necessary.

Click the "Direct Messaging" icon.

Click the "Start new conversion" (Pencil and paper) icon.

In the  "To:" Line, type "Xfinity Support".

As you type, a drop-down list will appear. Select "Xfinity Support" from that list.

An  "Xfinity Support" graphic will replace the  "To:" line.

Type your message in the text area near the bottom of the window.

Press Enter to send it.
