Suspicious email about changes to webmail/ Comcast mail

https://www.dropbox.com/s/vnr9rt7s8828ifc/IMG_1530.PNG?dl=0

My elderly mother and I share a Comcast Account but we have separate email addresses. Mom always has to ask me-- when something is suspicious -- if it is for real. I have noticed that webmail (on my computer) has new features, but I don't know if this is equivalent to "closing all our old versions of online correspondence". Mom uses iPhone to see her email as well as Mail app on her Windows 10 Home laptop and lets me help her with spam on webmail.

Please see photo of suspicious email. Notice that all personal information has been cropped off. Could anyone tell us what this email means?

It's a phishing email, a scammer attempt to steal login and account information.

If you check your email with Comcast's Xfinity Connect webmail ( https://connect.xfinity.com/ ), look for the XFINITY Verified Email logo next to any message that claims to be from Comcast/Xfinity. Note that anyone can insert an XFINITY Verified image in the body of an email, so it's important to note not only the presence of that image, but that it is in the correct locations:

  • preceding the email subject line in the list of emails
  • above the subject line when the email is opened.

See https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/comcast-verified-email for examples of valid logo placement. A logo in the body of the email does not count.

If the logo is missing when you view the message in webmail, the message is not from Comcast. Unfortunately the logo is not present when you view one of their messages in an email app or program. It's only visible when you use their web email site.

Samples of recent phishing messages can be found at https://internetsecurity.xfinity.com/help/alerts/ under "Top Phishing Scams".

To report a scam email to Comcast, follow the "Report Spam and Phishing Emails" link on https://internetsecurity.xfinity.com/help/report-abuse/ and scroll down to the "Report Phishing Emails" section.

The pop-up message image posted by employee @XfinityGabrielS in https://forums.xfinity.com/conversations/email/email-problems/6117ef47bfcc4a43b940ae7c?commentId=6183e26c24e8282ebaf11cbb is legitimate.

@BruceW

Thanks for your reply. I have read your information at the links given. I would report it to Comcast, but Mom has deleted the email.
