suspicious attachments

if I connect directly to the Comcast mail server to view a mail attachment that I received in my inbox, does that prevent any potentially malicious malware from infecting my laptop?

Greetings, samba51! I appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us here on the forums. I hope you are having an amazing day. I certainly understand your concern about cybersecurity. In this case, if the attachment is what's containing the malicious code, there is still a possibility of being infected. Between the security that scans emails and you running on a Mac, you should be well protected. Please let us know if you have any further questions.

I am an Official Comcast Employee.
