SMTP server port 587 - works from Comcast router, but not from attached secondary router

I have an Archer AX6600 Triband WiFi router attached via Ethernet to my Comcast router. Both routers are supplying (separate) WiFi networks. This has been a stable set-up for many months.
Recently devices (Linux tower, Macs, iPads, and iPhone) attached to the WiFi network supplied by the Archer have been having failures with outgoing mail; connection to the SMTP server via port 587 fails on that network. Incoming mail - and all other services work fine. I can also execute a telnet connection successfully to the Comcast SMTP server via port 587:

If I switch WiFi networks to the one provided by the Comcast router then the email goes out fine; SMTP via port 587 works.

Is the Comcast router somehow blocking outgoing port 587 from the Archer? If so, how may that be fixed? Or is it something else???

What are the symptoms of the failure? You've given a good description of the setup and an example of communication succeeding, but no specifics of the problem you are having. Any error messages or codes?

The failure is that email clients - Thunderbird under Ubuntu 24.04LTS, MacOS Email, and iOS email - report that they cannot connect to the SMTP server, which is hosted by Hurricane Electric. This occurs with two different domains that we own that are hosted by different Linux servers at he.net.
The problem is intermittent. This morning it does not occur.

The specifics are that three different email clients under three different OSs intermittently report - for hours at a time - that they cannot connect to the outgoing SMTP server, BUT incoming mail always work. I am not presented with error codes by the email clients UI.

The telnet connection always works, regardless of whether or not the SMTP connection work from an email client It is clearly not a fault on the he.net side, as connecting via the Comcast router always works.

Correct.

The connected secondary router (attached via Ethernet)  worked OK for two years.
For a while yesterday the secondary router was able to send through to the SMTP server via port 587. Today it is not.

Is there a difference that comes from the secondary router being connected via Ethernet?

FYI: The WiFi provided by the secondary router (Archer) is an extended mesh network using tertiary repeaters that covers a much wider area than the Comcast router can service. Simply switching to the Comcast WiFi is not desirable.
