setting up comcast email in mail on mac

I am trying to fix my comcast email and get it to appear through Mail in Mac. It was working fine until yesterday and I tried deleting the account and adding it back. But when I try to add it and enter the account information, I get an  error message that says "That account already exists".

After reading this post (and an older post on the same issue), I went to the two articles suggested and saw:

  • Sign in to Xfinity Email using your Xfinity ID and password.
  • In the top-right corner, click the Gear icon, then select Settings.
  • Click Security.
  • Uncheck the box under Third Party Access Security to prevent third-party programs access to your Xfinity Email, or check the box to allow access.

Actually, the box says to check it IF YOU WANT THIRD PARTY ACCESS. The box is not checked so I checked it (because I want third party access). here is a screenshot.

Something is not right. Is this an issue with Xfinity not communicating with the new updates in macOS? BTW, I was discussing this with my neighbor and she said she had not been able to get her comcast emails on her macOS Mail app for weeks but her iphone mail app works ok.

user_cgkhol Thanks for posting on our Community Forums. Are you still experiencing issues with connecting your email to the Mac client?

Yes. I am experiencing issues setting up my Xfinity/Comcast email on my macOS Mail app. Actually, my widow neighbor was having a problem doing the same thing and she asked me if I could help her. When I saw the issue, I decided to do the same thing on my macOS Mail app with my comcast.net email (which I don't have setup on my Mail app) and found the same issue. So there are two of us (confirmed) with the same issue. I went to the Apple Communities and posted the issue and was advised to go to Xfinity. I did and saw several postings (over a few years) with the same issue. Since my neighbor receives her Comcast.net emails on her iOS iPhone Mail app and we both are able to use our browsers to log in to the Xfinity email site, we know that our user names and pw are ok. Therefore, I conclude that the issue is with how macOS Mail app and Xfinity communicate with each other.

I'm ok with my situation but my neighbor uses here comcast.net email as her primary email and needs it on her computer.

Assistance would be appreciated.

@SlippySlope The best course of action, in this case, would actually be to report this to our Customer Security Assurance. You can contact them calling CSA directly at Toll-Free Number: 1-888-565-4329 to assist you with resetting your password.
