Sending Emails from Windows Live 12

For at least 3 months, I have not been able to send emails from Windows Live Mail; I receive but cannot send.  I've checked ports and they all seem to be correct. Note the msg says send or receive, but I can receive. I get the below message:

Unable to send or receive messages for the Comcast Email account. Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity.

Server: 'mail.comcast.net'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0F
Protocol: POP3
Port: 995
Secure(SSL): Yes

I've searched on line and on the forums, but cannot find any solution.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you run a search on that WLM error, you will get hits from every place but Microsoft, which has not supported WLM in a long time.  But then MS has a dismal history of not supporting their email clients over time.  WLM is no exception.  I can only suggest you consider migrating to a client like Thunderbird which has a solid track record.  And there are others you could use.  The Mail app that comes bundled in Windows 10 is servicable enough for most people, but again, its Microsoft.

Just sayin

Latoque:

Thank you for your response; I also have a TB acct; just don't care for the layout. Still working with it; I sent a test msg from TB to one of my 3 email accts; I did receive it, however it does not show in my "Sent" File; checked settings and I do have to save a copy in Sent, so I'll just have to work with it to see what's up with that.

Thanks again

In Thunderbird are you using IMAP or POP3?

I believe I have POP 3. However, I uninstalled it this am and reinstalled and when I try to look at the settings to verify what I have, it limits what I can see.  Don't know how to explain it so you'll understand what I'm seeing.  However, I will add this about TB.  I have one other email account in TB  (Juno) and I can send and receive from it without any trouble.  It makes me think that the issue is a comcast problem because the message I get says it cannot connect to the comcast server.

With IMAP in Thunderbird when sending email it will show up in your webmail Sent folder [I just tried it].

I'm not sure what you mean by "when I try to look at the settings to verify what I have, it limits what I can see". I can see all my settings by clicking on the account [above the Inbox] and then on View settings for this account in the right pane.  Outgoing settings are found by scrolling down to the bottom of the box that comes up.

You might want to check your Thunderbird settings here.

Like I said: I didn't know how to explain what I was getting so that you would understand when I hit settings.  I believe this issue is a Thunderbird issue because when I click Settings, I am not able to change settings and if I post a picture, it will just cause more confusion.  So , I'll take that up with TB and then

I'll come back here for the connection issue.  I just saw that other people are having the same issue with not being able to send from Email clients, so maybe by that time, the comcast issue will be fixed.

Thanks for responding, though.

I received a request from Comcast to mark one of these responses as best answer.  There has not been a solution.  Since I can send and receive from Windows Live Mail 12 and Thunderbird  from other email accounts., i.e., juno, hotmail, and not Comcast, I believe this is a Comcast problem that they are not fixing.

I also see others are experienceing the same issue w/Comcast also.

I would appreciate any more input if available.

Thanks.

It's not a WLM problem - I just had the exact same problem with the old Vista email app Winmail.exe on my Windows 10 desktop - it's a problem with Comcast. While researching the problem all the sudden it started working again. Oddest thing (or maybe not), is that the email addy that was originally set up as my Comcast username kept working, it was a 2nd alternate email addy that I use as my primary email addy that gave the "Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection" error, and it wouldn't download emails (I could send but not receive) - this has occurred for several days now but I didn't even realize it because email from the other addy was coming through fine.

I don't think we have the same issue.  I can "receive" emails in Windows Live, but I can't "send" them.  They remain in my outbox.   Just tested it again and got the same thing.  Glad you were able to solve your issue, though. I just use Thunderbird to send emails from Comcast address.  It also believe it's a Comcast issue, they just don't know how to correct it.

kathyjoe, so you're saying you've abandoned WLM for Thunderbird for your comcast.net email and that is working for you now?

I have 2 email accounts in WLM. 1 is Comcast and the other is Juno.  I use Juno to send and receive most emails in WLM and it works fine.

I can receive emails in my WLM Comcast acct, but if I want to respond to an email received in Comcast WLM, I have to switch to my Comcast acct in Thunderbird or respond from the Juno Email account. ()  I just saw a few other people who use Outlook complaining in a different thread that they're experiencing the same issues as of last night.  I have been experiencing this for almost a year now.  Just gave up . But if you have nay solutions, I'll be happy to give it a shot. This is the msg I get when I try to send an email from Comcast WLM and the msg remains in my WLM outbox til I remove it.

Server Error: 421

Server Response: 421 Cannot connect to SMTP server 2001:558:fc0a:3:f816:3eff:fefd:7c7b (2001:558:fc0a:3:f816:3eff:fefd:7c7b:587), connect error 10060

Well, I didn't "solve" anything - the server just spontaneously started responding. Only thing I did, but this can't possibly have fixed anything, was to go to the bad email addy in my browser to the Xfinity website to look at the mail stuck in the inbox.  After deleting most of the msgs and forwarding twoto my working Comcast addy, that's when the bad account started receiving email again.

What happens if you use port 465?

Just saw this today. I made some other changes yesterday, and I think it's working now, however, I'm going to monitor it today.  I'll try 465 if it still not working and let you know.  Thanks!

That may have been your problem all along - with Comcast email the incoming mail server should be port 995, outgoing server port 465, under the Accounts/Properties/Servers tab outgoing server is smtp.comcast.net, incoming POP3 server is mail.comcast.net.

You could check your Juno settings and T-bird settings to see how they're set up, but even if they're different (and they work) you have to use the above settings for Comcast.
