pop email access via Thunderbird

Just this morning, after 10am EDT, Thunderbird can no longer retrieve my email from comcast.net. Attempts fail with:

"The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. Mail server mail.comcast.net responded: Message 1 expunged."

I found a posting (undated) that said it was necessary to switch to secure access on port 995. I looked and found that I was still using STARTTLS to mail.comcast.net on port 110. So I changed it to SSL/TLS to pop3.comcast.net on port 995.

But I'm still getting the same error:

"The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. Mail server pop3.comcast.net responded: Message 1 expunged."

I also found a posting that said it was necessary to enable 3rd party email access. I checked and that was already enabled.

I don't see what else I need to do to make my email work again. HELP!!!

(Nor have I figured out how to get comcast support on this.)

I didn't see such a message. But I did connect to the email server on the web and deleted a bunch of messages in the queue. Maybe I inadvertently cured the problem that way.

It is interesting that this problem led me to notice I was still using port 110 rather than 995. Given Comcast's warning about that I'm surprised that it was still working.

Hmm. Seems that the problem went away by itself without my doing anything.

So perhaps it was a transient error. I've also been having a high error rate on my comcast network connection too, so that might have contributed. But I don't think I have ever seen this particular error in over 20 years of using Thunderbird to access comcast email via pop.

I'm seeing the same error "The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. Mail server mail.comcast.net responded: Message 1 expunged." I've been unable to retrieve e-mail since around 5:30 PM Central Time today.

I just tried it on another machine with the same results. No messages can be retrieved after last email at 10 a.m. today, 3/13. However my Android phone is current and I can of course log in to Xfinity and web view my emails. But like you, I have been using TBird long, long time...

I had the exact same issue all day yesterday but this morning  my new email messages started loading with thunderbird.  I did nothing to resolve this, seems to cleared up on it own.

Fixed it: mail had a 0kb message which I was able to delete online, which cleared up the problem.

I had same error message since yesterday. I also found a 0kb message from an unknown sender in my inbox when accessing my webmail account through xfinity. I promptly deleted it (along with some additional housekeeping) and problem has been solved.  Thanks!

My issue also cleared today without any intervention on my part. Comcast must've found and resolved the issue,  an internal error or misconfig probably.
