Outlook on new android phone ( S20 FE 5g) won't connect to comcast.net

Trying to configure  Outlook for Android ( v4.2122.1 from PlayStore) on my new phone.  I'm stuck trying to set it up.  I looked up the Imap settings on both Xfinity site and  [https://autoconfig.thunderbird.net/v1.1/comcast.net ] https://autoconfig.thunderbird.net/v1.1/comcast.net these are what I found.

  • Incoming Mail Server Name: imap.comcast.net.
  • IMAP UserName is email address
  • Incoming Mail Server Port Number: 993 with SSL ON.
  • (poss. alternative) Port 143 with STARTTLS
  • Outgoing Mail Server Name: smtp.comcast.net.
  • SMTP UserName is email address
  • Outgoing Mail Server Port Number: 587 (SMTP) ...
  • Encryption: STARTTLS
  • (Alt) Port 465 with SSL encryption

However, there isn't a location on the account creation panel to enter either encryptions.  Google-fu suggests that Outlook sets these automatically based on MX record..  I input incoming and outgoing servers, change the ports and enter the IMAP and SMTP username, which is full email address if Autoconfig by Mozilla is to be trusted.... AND  I always get the error "password or username is incorrect".  I have verified my account and password on my laptop.  My password does not contain a (") double quote-mark which is apparently a known bug.  I have verified that Xfinity Email Security flag is set to Allow 3rd Party apps (checked) . I have un-installed and re-installed the app, as well as trying every combination of ports.  Outlook for Android worked fine on my old phones Galaxy S7 with Comcast.

Current version on new phone works with my work Office 365 acct, my outlook.com email, and gmail.  Just can't get it to work with Xfinty/Comcast.net.

Can someone verify the settings I'm using or give the magic phrase to make it work?

@rrj4375 Does Outlook give an option for autoconfig?  Have you tried that?

@Again Attempted to use simple/auto config the first 3 times  -- no joy -- if you enter your XF/Comcast email and press enter, It pops a small dialog where you can choose IMAP or POP3 then it takes you Advanced setup where you have to enter IMAP UserName, server name and port,  etc...

There is no place on the Advanced Config panel to indicate preferred Encryption, i.e.  SSL or STARTTLS.  If you configure manually entering server name, username, and port for both IMAP and SMTP blocks (which is every available field on the panel),  you get "user name or password incorrect" no matter what combination of ports one tries.

I guess my follow-up question is has anyone gotten Outlook app ( latest ver 4.2122.1 from Playstore) to work with Android 11.  Just had a friend try it on Pixel 4XL with Android 11 and he gets same error.

Thank you for reaching out today and I do apologize that you are having issues connecting Outlook for Android to our mail servers. From your incredibly detailed description of the problem (Thank you for that, it truly helps) I think the issue may be that you have access to third party email applications turned of in your mail settings. To verify this and turn them on, we have easy to follow instructions right here! https://comca.st/3ddW1fQ;

Thank you for helping; however, the link provided is incorrect.  If you are speaking about XF 3rd party email security, I have verified that is set to ALLOW.

Please see original posting   "...I have verified that Xfinity Email Security flag is set to Allow 3rd Party apps (checked)...".

This issue is confined to MS Outlook for Android as I have installed and tested -- BlueMail, Spark, and FairMail  -- each of which configures properly and allows access to XF/Comcast mail servers.

My preference is to use Outlook, if possible.  For the record, what are the  correct IMAP and SMTP settings?  imap.comcast.net:993 SSL and smtp.comcast.net:587 STARTTLS correct??

I do apologize that I missed your comment about already verifying the setting for allowing 3rd party apps. I just finished putting outlook on my phone a Pixel 3aXL so I cannot test your exact setup but can come close. On the Add account screen I entered my Comcast email and clicked continue. I get the same IMAP POP3 choice you described and selected IMAP. On the next screen I left the advanced settings unchecked so they were not even displayed and entered my password only finished by selecting the check mark in the upper right of the screen. It added the account and send/receive works as expected. I then deleted the account and tried setting it up again, this time using the advanced settings and it worked with using port 465 on the outgoing not 587.

Actually I have the same problem with outlook on my Samsung Galaxy Tab S7.  It was working on sending emails until the end of July, after that nothing I sent from the tablet actually went through even though it is listed in the sent tab on both my tablet and the xfinity connect site.  I tested this today trying to send 3 seperate emails to my work email address, deleting the account and trying different settings from autoconfigure to advanced settings each time.  Even deleting outlook and reinstalling did not fix the issue.  I have checked the outlook app with my Gmail account and it sends just fine.  I just confirmed that the issues is not just with my tablet as my galaxy s10 has the same issue.  The email shows up as being sent, but is not actually sent out from comcast servers

So after chatting with Microsoft support what I ended up doing to get it working was

1. Remove all accounts out of outlook.

2. Force stopped outlook

3. Cleared the cache.

4. Restarted the device

5. Reinstalled outlook.

6. Added the accounts back to outlook.

After this I was able to send out emails and received the test emails on the accounts I sent them to.
