Outlook No Longer Able to Reach imap.comcast.net Server (7/12/2020)
As of this morning I am no longer able to sync email (IMAP) from imap.comcast.net server via Outlook. Outlook had been working smoothly for 4 years, then this morning email retieval was gone. When I launched Outlook and received a pop-up request to log into the server (user name & password). Multiple attempts made, all failed. Error message stated unable to access server, if error persist contact internet service/email provider. Phone support at Comcast was completely worthless. While trying to diagnose the issue I also discovered imap.comcast.net server does not/will not respond to a ping test. Comcast phone support didn't appear to even know what "ping" meant. Anyone have a suggestion?

not being able to ping to our IMAP server is intentional...wouldn't want our email servers to get DDoS'd and get taken down preventing everyone from accessing their emails 🙂
This is a common and generic issue that you are describing and in all instances has to do with how the Outlook settings are configured. You will want to change settings, retype passwords(inbound and outbound are seperate). Some instances a full remove of an email account and re-adding of the email account also resolves the issue.
A test to confirm whether the servers are functional is to access the email via xfinity.com. If you encounter no errors or issues there - the email platform is up and running, including IMAP.
