Netgear C7000v2 — End-of-Life Status and Replacement Requirements
I am an existing Xfinity Internet customer using my own Netgear C7000v2 modem/router, purchased in 2018.
My current plan is Gigabit Extra, costing $80/month. Xfinity's equipment compatibility checker recognizes my modem but displays the following warning:
"Your modem isn't optimized for the plan you selected."
The checker lists my plan's download speed as up to 1,300 Mbps and upload speed as 35 Mbps. My internet service is currently working.
I understand that my older modem cannot deliver the full advertised download speed. However, my primary concern is whether I will eventually be required to replace it.
Could you please clarify:
- End-of-life status: Is my Netgear C7000v2 officially classified as end-of-life (EOL) or unsupported by Xfinity, or is it simply not optimized for my current speed tier?
- Mandatory replacement: If it is EOL or unsupported, may I continue using my already-activated modem? Is there a mandatory replacement deadline or anticipated service interruption?
- Advance notice: Will Xfinity notify me before replacement becomes mandatory? If so, how much advance notice should I expect?
- Customer-owned equipment: If replacement becomes necessary, can I continue using a compatible customer-owned modem/router rather than renting equipment from Xfinity?
I am planning ahead because a previous attempt to use a newer Xfinity gateway resulted in significant compatibility problems with my wireless printer/scanner. I want sufficient time to research and test a replacement solution.
I am not requesting a plan change, equipment replacement, or troubleshooting at this time. I would appreciate written clarification of my modem's current support status and whether any action is required.
Thank you.

The C7000v2 is no longer on their "compatible" list (follow the "See all modems" link near the bottom of https://www.xfinity.com/support/internet/customerowned). Note that when the device was still on that list, it was never compatible with Gigabit speeds. They rated it for use with plan speeds "Up to 863 Mbps".
In the past Comcast/Xfinity classified devices they dropped from the "compatible" list as EOL, but they don't seem to do that anymore, at least not publicly. They just drop the device from the list.
They seem to allow devices that are no longer "compatible" to continue to operate, but who knows for how long?
It wouldn't count on it. I'm guessing you'll just continue to receive "not optimized" notices.
Yep.

Thank you for the helpful explanation. My primary concern isn't achieving the full Gigabit Extra speed; it's avoiding an unexpected service interruption.
Could an official Xfinity employee confirm whether my already-activated C7000v2 can remain in service indefinitely unless Xfinity announces a mandatory replacement, and whether customers would receive advance notice?
Also, if replacement eventually becomes necessary, can I continue using a compatible customer-owned modem/router rather than renting an Xfinity gateway?
