Mail retention on server - 90 days?

How long are emails preserved on the server (what is the default Xfinity retention period)? Is it 90 days? I understand the 10GB limit. Do older than 90 day emails get automatically wiped?

Reason for the question - about 100 days ago I switched my mail client to iMAP. In the web email viewer it's obvious that older than 90 days emails are not accessible and not searchable. This is not mentioned anywhere in Xfinity support documentation.

Are all emails wiped after 90 days?

@BruceW  That article says "Inbox and Sent messages will not be removed automatically." But, the lookback window of inbox emails is only 90 days - the view in the client mail apps (I'm using standard Apple Mail) and the view in the Xfinity mail app only shows the last 90 days.

Is there a way to get at them? Or is there apparently  default deletion policy, as I was informed by a chat support agent today?

The Xfinity Connect setting documentation is confusing. It implies that upon download if we have the advanced setting on Keep, it'll be kept forever - but that only really applies to the old POP server, not IMAPs - correct?

All I can tell you is that webmail's retention schedule is:

  • Spam (and any message in a folder within Spam) is stored for 7 days or 2,000 messages, whichever comes first.
  • Trash (and any message in a folder within Trash) is stored for 14 days or 5,000 messages, whichever comes first.
  • Messages deleted from Trash can be recovered for 30 days.
  • Messages in the remaining folders are kept indefinitely.

See https://www.xfinity.com/support/internet/set-email-deletion-settings  and https://connect.xfinity.com/appsuite/apps/faq/index.html#recoverEmail.

As stated in the webmail Advanced Settings, the Keep or Delete option only applies to email programs and apps accessing the Inbox using POP. If messages are deleted by a client using IMAP, this setting does not protect them.

What lookback clients may have is up to them and is not something webmail can control.

I'm afraid I don't know what "apparently default deletion policy" means so I can't help you with that.
