Mac Mail cannot connect to Comcast account for outgoing mail

I've checked the incoming and outgoing settings and they are correct as directed by Xfinity. I keep being asked for my password and getting an error message that says "can't verify account name or password".  I know both are correct.  What else can I do?

I'm assuming you are running Catalina and the latest version of Mac Mail?  That being the case, you need to change the password for both the incoming and outgoing servers.  See here-----------------------

Yes, I'm running the latest version of Catalina.  I don't understand why I would need to change my password.  The password for my account works for incoming mail, but not outgoing.  Thank you.

What worked for me was to go to the mail app and click mailbox, take all accounts online.
