Is this a scam? 2025 Record Validation – Review Required

Hello,

I just received an e-mail containing this message: 2025 Record Validation – Review Required

The email address that the e-mail is from this address: onlinecommunicationaccess@comcast.net

The subject of the email is: Important Reminder: You have an urgent message about your email

The email asks me to perform an action using a button within four days. This looks like a scam. Is it? I do not expect to ever see an email like this, especially not during a major holiday weekend. I have not performed the action and am trying to report this to Xfinity for judgment about whether it is a scam.

It reads like gibberish. And legitimate emails DO NOT come from Comcast.net addresses.

If the email was sent to a Comcast.net address and you check your email with Comcast's Xfinity Connect webmail (https://connect.xfinity.com/), look for the XFINITY Verified Email logo next to any message that claims to be from Comcast/Xfinity. Note that anyone can insert an XFINITY Verified image in the body of an email, so it's important to note not only the presence of that image, but that it is in the correct locations:

  • proceeding the email subject line in the list of emails
  • above the subject line when the email is opened.

See https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/comcast-verified-email for examples of valid logo placement. A logo in the body of the email does not count.

Unfortunately, AFAIK the logo is not present when you view one of their messages in an email app or program. It's only visible when you use their web email site, and only for email sent to Comcast.net addresses.

Samples of recent phishing messages can be found at https://spa.xfinity.com/alerts under "Top Phishing Scams". To report a scam email to Comcast, follow the instructions under the "How do I report phishing email sent to or from a Comcast.net email account?" heading on https://spa.xfinity.com/help/email-abuse?faq=spam-email.

@user_27hpcs Thanks for bringing your concerns to our attention and not clicking on any links. What does the email say? Does it mention a username? We have a web age where you can report suspicious emails through our security team at https://spa.xfinity.com/help/network-abuse?faq=report-online-harassment.

@XfinityKei

The same issue, with screen shot, was reported by another customer on this forum on 5/24 or 5/25. Here's what the e-mail sent to me says. I copied and pasted the text and obscured my email address and the link that was embedded in the email. I reported the email Saturday 5/24 about 6:45 Eastern to abuse@Comcast.net with the subject "Phishing Email". That email contains the details.
