inbox does not show number of new emails

title tells it all. new emails are not reflected by the counter shown in the inbox icon. problem exists for two of my email accounts. the counter on my third email account increments with each new email. the mailbox icon that I am referencing is the icon shown just after log-in.

What Inbox icon are you referring to?  Are you using only the webmail interface?  Or a desktop client like Thunderbird?  Or a mobile app?

I am using Firefox to access email at Comcast. I repeat, the mailbox icon that I am referencing is the icon shown just after log-in. Here is how it works for everyone: one logs-in to their email account. The first screen that is shown has icons along the top right-hand portion. There is a letter shaped icon. It shows a numeric digit which is the number of newly received emails. Mine doesn't work.
