I am unable to connect my Xfinity email with Outlook on my Macbook Air

I love my Xfinity email but I am have been having a problem for a week now with my new MacBook Air that I can't solve.  Please help me.

DESCRIPTION OF ISSUE: I want to connect my Xfinity email with Outlook on my Macbook Air, but so far, I have been unable to do so.  When I go through the process as specified by Xfinity and Outlook, I am unsuccessful and receive the following error message: "We encountered an error while adding account. Please try again."

WHAT I ALREADY TRIED:

  • Yes, I have checked and double checked all of settings including incoming server port 995 and outgoing server port 587).  All are confirmed.  Please don't suggest this.
  • Yes, I have checked and double-checked my user name and password. Both are confirmed.  Please don't suggest this.
  • Yes, I have ensured that I have turned ON "access to third-party email programs" in Xfinity Email. This is confirmed.  Please don't suggest this.

I think there must be another security setting that I am missing that has been established because "these programs could expose your Xfinity ID and password to fraud and other risks."  I suspect that there is not public answer in these discussion boards for security reasons (I have gone through EVERY related topic).

Please - I need help and if you can't provide a public answer, please send answer to [Edited: "Personal Information"].  Thank you very much!

user_fe97d9 Thanks for reaching out about the issue linking your email to Outlook on your MacBook Air. Does the MacBook have it's own VPN in use when trying to do this? I have seen some Apple users with the same issue that when removing the VPN from the device solved the issue. Then they added it back after.

Thanks for the reply, Eric.  No, I am not using any VPN.

user_fe97d9 Can you try adjusting the settings based on how this link provides the steps https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/verifying-outlook-express-settings. Looks like the preferred outgoing service port should be 465 not 587, and the step by step instructions may clear up any other steps that might have been missed or put in with different settings you saw in other posts. Let me know if you still get any errors after going through the steps in this link.

Thanks, Eric.  Following those steps does not address the issue.

I figured out a a way to get it to work, although I am not certain that this is the optimal approach.  However, I sharing to help others that find themselves in a similar situation.

In the Outlook menu, scroll down and select "Legacy Outlook."  Then, the normal set up applies and it works without issue.

I hope this is helpful to others.
