Getting imap.comcast.net not responding when setting up mail on iPhone   Had to delete and install mail app on iPhone. Have been unable to connect email since.

Odd.  Did you try it with WiFi disabled (using the cell link only on your phone)?

Current config -- these were auto-detected:

Just subscribed to mail (not notes)

Host Name (inbound) = imap.comcast.net

Username = [email user]@comcast.net

password = [your password]

    | ssl = on

    | authentication = password

    | imap path prefix = (blank or '/' is the default root)

    | server port = 993

Outgoing Mail = smtp.comcast.net  -- same username and password as above

        | use ssl = on

        | authentication = password

        | port = 587 (submit)

Not sure why yours wouldn't work with auto-probe, and generally, if an email server VM or rack instance fails, another one spins up fairly fast and loads your mail (at least recent stuff), but I don't actually normally use xfinity email for anything.  You might need @XfinityCSAEmail  take a look at the account.  Perhaps this post will tip them off.  They're usually pretty good about that.

*Are you using any type of VPN or anti-virus (Avast email filter/VPN or Barracuda or other 3rd party net nanny) on your iPhone?  If you are, switch it off or temporarily disable it for a test.

Gotta bring it up to the VPN provider.  They really shouldn't be blocking an imap server on comcast.  Pulling inbound from a mail server isn't really a problem.

Now I can see forcing you to use THEIR outbound mail server when connected to THEIR network.  Most of us only accept mail from our own networks.  It's kind of an open relay/spam zombie problem, so I'd understand Xfinity rejecting email from a VPN providers network as well.

the imap server mail.comcast.net is not responding.  check your network connection and that you entered the correct information in the incoming server mail field

I do.  Delete the mail account on your phone so it's not trying to log in. 

Perhaps your account or your IP address has been placed in "postfix mail server jail".  I set up postfix email servers that way.  Repeated failed attempts trip both the mail server, and a firewall eventually.  Eventually, it will also timeout and remove offending IP addresses, but that time duration can be set to anything.  I don't know what the time limits on Xfinity are.  I would assume they unblock things at some point too.

Now go to xfinity.com in a web browser and log in there.  Try to check your email from webmail just to verify you are using the correct username (email address) and password.  Now click the 'gear icon' in the upper right to get into settings.  Under "Security", check the box that says "Allow access to my xfinity email through 3rd party.....".

Great.  Now disable WiFi on the iphone.  Setup the account on iPhone using cell data to try to come at it from a different network. https://www.xfinity.com/support/articles/email-client-programs-with-xfinity-email   Make sure the server name, port and SSL is On.  Make sure the settings are correct on the outbound server.  This also takes potential WiFi issues with your gear out of the mix.

If it works,  good.  Wait about 15-20 minutes, then connect to your home WiFi, check your mail, and fire off a test email.

@flatlander3​ Thanks, you got me a bit closer.  I can send emails and look at some of my folders. I cannot see my incoming mail.  When I try and reload the inbox I get a message that states Comcast is not available

Using the default iphone mail (settings --> mail --> accounts --> add account --> other --> add mail account)

I just added xfinity.  All I had to enter is:

Name  == what you want your name displayed as in your email

email == [your username]@comcast.net

password == your xfinity password

description == anything, how you want it identified in the mail app

It figured out the rest and just loaded.  Got the port right, ssl on, password authentication, figured out the outgoing server, etc. 

Now I did setup my xfinity account with a 3rd party email account for a username, but the mail app wants your xfinity email address for a username.  Are you setting it up with yours?  Maybe delete the mail account and try to add it again?

@XfinityCSAEmail I'm having the same issue as described above.  I just changed my email password and now I'm getting a message that says "Cannot get Mail, the mail server imap.comcast.net is not responding.  Please help!
