false updating email received

I received an email that I thought was from Xfiinity (but now know that it wasn't). Thethe email said:

We are shutting down the old version of your email account on  31st July, and you will no longer have access unless you upgrade to the latest version.

PROCEED FROM HERE     to Update your Mailbox now to avoid service disruption and to continue enjoying uninterrupted access to your email.

Unfortunately, I did respond and updated. Since then I understand that my contacts received an email from me asking if they shop on Amazon.

I am able to see that there was activity on my account from an unknown ip address.

  • LocationUS
  • IP address[Edited: "Personal Information"]

I am getting some emails but know there are quite a few missing. My sister emailed me and got a reply from [Edited: "Personal Information"].

I have tried to get support through the Xfinity system but can't get any answers to help.

Hello there user_dde121! Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns regarding the recent email you received from the parties claiming to be Xfinity 👍 I know exactly what it's like to see suspicious activity on my email after receiving what I thought was something legit, so I want to help however I can!

While Xfinity does have an email migration to Yahoo Mail in process, customers would be notified 30 days in advance and can choose to move their email by accepting Yahoo's terms or export their data. The transition will occur in phases through 2026, and users will retain their email addresses, messages, folders, and contacts. This change only affects Comcast.net email accounts; other Comcast services remain unchanged. Notifications began on July 28, 2025, to inform customers about their migration status. It sounds like that's not quite the email you received, but luckily we have a team that works with situations just like this.

If you ever receive any kind of email that you feel may be malicious, I recommend you to report it directly to our Customer Security Assurance team for further review at internetsecurity.xfinity.com/help/report-abuse 👍 I also encourage you to visit the FTC webpage on Scams as it's chalked with lots of awesome information to further protect yourself against information pirates in the future!
